About

About Working on UC

Free, independent calculators and guides for people who work and claim Universal Credit.

What this site is

Working on UC explains how Universal Credit works for people who also earn. The calculators use the published rates and rules. Each guide links to the official guidance or adviser material it's based on, so you can check it yourself.

What it isn't

  • It isn't run by, or connected to, the Department for Work and Pensions, HMRC or GOV.UK.
  • It isn't financial, pensions or benefits advice. The calculators give estimates, and your Universal Credit statement is the final word on what you're paid.
  • It doesn't recommend pension providers or products, and it doesn't earn commission from them.

How the figures are checked

Universal Credit rates change every April. Each April the calculators and guides are updated against DWP's published rates and GOV.UK guidance. The figures on this site were last checked in November 2026.

The main sources are DWP's benefit and pension rates, GOV.UK guidance, DWP's own Universal Credit guidance, the Low Incomes Tax Reform Group, the Child Poverty Action Group, Turn2us and Shelter. There's more on how we check our facts, including how we use AI tools.
